During the 3rd International Conference of Biogas and Biomethane Producers "Green Gas Poland 2020" organized by UPEBI at the beginning of October this year, the Government Plenipotentiary for RES, Ireneusz Zyska, announced the signing of the "Letter of Intent to establish a partnership for the development of the biogas and biomethane sector and the conclusion of a sectoral agreement". The document was signed at the Ministry of Climate and Environment on the 13th of October, and its signatories included, apart from UPEBI, PGNiG, ORLEN, PSG and GAZ-SYSTEM.

The signatories declared their readiness to undertake joint actions in order to conclude and implement the "Agreement on cooperation for the development of the biogas and biomethane sector", such as:

• integration of stakeholders involved in the development of the biogas and biomethane sectors
• participation in the preparation of the reports in the field of diagnosis of the current situation, potential and recommendations for the optimization of the development of the domestic supply chain for the biogas industry in Poland
• providing good faith knowledge and disseminating information on the technology of the biogas industry and the development of the biogas market in Poland and in other EU countries
• sharing best practices in the development and implementation of biogas production technology from biomass, in particular from installations for the treatment of animal or vegetable waste, sewage treatment plants and landfills
• facilitating contacts between experts in the field of biogas and biomethane, and relevant government administration bodies and stakeholders
• increasing the production capacity of the biogas industry in Poland.

During the ceremonial signing of the letter, the Minister of Climate and Environment, Michał Kurtyka, emphasized that the increase in the use of biogas and biomethane would be of key importance for the transformation of the economy towards a low-emission economy and would be an important element of the "Poland's energy policy until 2040". The Government Plenipotentiary for RES, Ireneusz Zyska, announced that he would take action to boost the development of the biogas sector and to introduce legal solutions aimed directly at biomethane.
